Also a shirtless picture of me with road rash so yeah you've been warned. Although the wounds aren't too bad looking. For those of you who are squeamish enjoy this picture of my Specialized Hardrock which I named Holo (Because what the fuck else would I name it) after our adventure today.

You brave bastard. So what happened is that I was on the walkway of the bridge and went to go over an extension cord that was being used for construction. Well when you're on a bike and want to go over something like that you have to approach it directly and not diagonally or else you tire will lose traction. Guess how I went over it. So needless to say I wiped out in a spectacular way with my bike flying into the air and me with it and slide about 10 feet when I reached the ground (it was at the end of the bridge so I was on a slope. Anyways the group of workers that I had waved "hi" to earlier run over to check on me and after I assure that I'm ok the, who I assumed was the foreman comes over to me and asks me if I'm ok and started apologizing repeatedly about how the extension cord was layed out. Well I basically tell him that it's all cool and that we all make mistakes and a fall every now and then builds character and we laugh. However it was about then that I noticed that the chain was screwed up on my bike now and the guy see it the same time as me and is all like "Hey don't worry, I might not look like it but I'm a big bike guy myself!" The man flips over my bike and has the chain on there and the derailers all un-junked up in literally about 6 seconds. Anyways long story short we talked a little bit after then I thanked him for helping me with my bike, shook his hand and told him to have a nice day. Over all it could of been a lot worse and I'm very glad that I only came out with only what I did.

There are more lower down but I'm not about to strip for you guys. It doesn't hurt bad right now but I can already tell you that this is going to hurt like hell tomorrow. Now if you'll excuse me I'm going to go take a nice long bath and pray that it helps it not hurt as bad as I think it's going to. If any of you have any good ideas to avoid me being in a world of pain tomorrow I'm open to suggestions.

P.S. put those sidebars on my bike today and they make a world of difference in comfort! I highly recommend a pair to anyone that rides a mountain bike!

When I was 7 I tried to jump my bike using a ramp made of thick cardboard. The ramp held the first few runs, then it broke. I flipped over my handle bars. Yeah... I don't do common sense. A few years ago I hit an oil slick in the gutter of a road, the bike slid out from under me and I rubbed my arms, legs, hands, and chest against the nice and comfortable black top. I still have the scars from that incident. I now wear a helmet if I bike anywhere that isn't in my neighborhood.

I've wiped out on my bike a few times. The most memorable time was when I was probably 6 I was riding home with my wet socks around my hands. I was going around a corner and hit some loose gravely stuff, wiped right out and flopped around a bit. Still have the scar on my knee.

Oh and I just remembered another time when I was on a friend's bike who's front brake was waaaaaaaaay too sensitive. I slammed on the brake at high speed and the thing literally did a front flip. I landed unharmed, on my back, facing the other way, in the grass.

OWW! None of that sounds fun. I'm glad I wore my helmet (though I always do) because I was probably several centimeters from needing it.

So what's the story behind that?

I know I'm extremely thankful that I didn't break anything!

Doing your best anime pose eh?

A few years back my brother and his wife bought new bikes like yours. They finally get around to using them, and about 10 feet later my brother bites it. Braking the foot peg off and slicing the shit out of his forearm. To the hospital they went.

I got my DK Rage in 9th grade for Christmas. All my friends had been riding to school (and smoking pot on the way) and I couldn't wait to join them. My mom wasn't too keen on the idea of me riding to school but eventually she let me go with them. Well the first day I rode it to school, I got 3/4 of the way there before neglecting to see a pothole and flipping myself over the handle bars. She didn't let me ride to school again after that.

I have plenty of scars that resulted from my own clumsiness.

Well, I live in NJ, so the short story is "pothole." The long story is that I was flying through an intersection and there's a bit of a dip, where I didn't see said pothole. I thought I had it, with the first wheel, but when the back wheel hit I more or less slid into a rock wall while going down. That was also pre-cell phone, so I had to bike home about 15-20ish miles.

Another time I went down was because of a girl. I was just really angry with myself, so I wasn't really thinking, and I went to make a really sharp (nearly hairpin) turn in traffic at a yellow light. Ended up going right down into the lane when the light turned green. I'm far less proud of that one...it was just all colors of stupid and dangerous on my part.

Man I had my fair share of bike injuries... I say that as if they'll ever stop coming haha.
I lol'd at the "it builds character". I've used that phrase a few times after some funny stuff happening!

Hey, could be worse! I've had a bunch of really nasty urban accidents (clipped a car, crashed into things, crashed after slipping on things, etc.) Your skin will reject all the gravel underneath it within a week.

Just keep clean and accept the fact that it's going to hurt for the next couple of days. Adjust your schedule accordingly.

If you are able to believe it, that's more than I got laying my Triumph down on an oil slick. I got one on my wrist and one on my elbow. The jacket took the brunt of it, and the helmet didn't have impact damage beyond scratches on the face shield.

Be safe out there, man.

Sweet-ass bike dude!
Awesome color - I've never seen that before.

I wanted a Specialized mountain bike and looked all summer for a used one relatively cheap ($200 - I know, I know, I was hopeful) but never ended up finding anything.
I did come across a pretty cool lower-end 90s Trek with a couple mods used for $45 at a yard sale though after the summer. Haven't yet taken it to a trail but I can't wait until the weather gets better for it.

TL;DR No King of the Mountain for you today!

Jk, At least you got the right attitude about it and definitely be thankful for other dudes that know what they are doing, other bikers have saved my ass a bunch of times.

Time for elbow/knee pads if you're riding your bike in an urban jungle? Its not a question of if but when you'll fall. I've done the whole superman flying thing when my front wheel got caught in a bad pothole and sent me sprawling. Nasty burns on the wrists and forearm.

Sweet jesus, I laid down my 400lb motorcycle through a corner and lost less blood then that. Although I did fracture my elbow so there's that. Tomatos/tomatoes though I guess.

Actually I did place 6th on a strava segment! Not much in my town but I like to think I have an excuse for riding a mountain bike and also being injured.

Nice one......I'm sure the first thing you thought after your crash was "Is my bike okay?" A few years ago I thought the same thing when I slid out on one of those metal grate see through bridges.

I broke 3 fingers, my left clavicle and had numerous scrapes, but my bike was mostly okay.

I see you are one of those guys that run bar ends on riser bars.....that's a big fashion no-no if your a hardcore mountain biker- fuck'em, I run bar ends on both my riser equipped mountain bikes.
